What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgery that reshapes the nose to improve how it looks, how it functions, or both.

It’s often used to address things like bumps on the bridge, breathing issues, or a tip that feels too wide or droopy. At Heights Plastic Surgery, we use advanced imaging and precise surgical techniques so every procedure is tailored to your features, goals, and anatomy. Whether you’re looking for subtle refinements or a more noticeable change, our focus is always on creating results that feel balanced and natural.

What Aesthetic Issues Does Rhinoplasty Address?

This procedure can correct a wide range of concerns.

If your nose feels too large or too small for your face, has a visible hump, appears crooked after an injury, or you’ve just never loved the shape, it can all be addressed through rhinoplasty. Some people want to narrow wide nostrils or define a round tip. Others need to adjust the angle of the nose or improve symmetry. Whatever your reason, the goal is always to help your nose fit better with the rest of your features.

Rhinoplasty Candidates

Most healthy adults who are unhappy with the appearance or function of their nose are likely good candidates for a rhinoplasty. Your nose should be fully developed, which usually happens by the mid-teen years.

Some people choose rhinoplasty after an injury, while others have always been self-conscious about their nose. If you’re in good health and have realistic expectations, it’s likely a good fit. There are a few situations where rhinoplasty might not be recommended right away, if you’re a smoker, have certain medical conditions, or are still growing, for example. We’ll walk through all of that with you during your consultation.

Consultation And How To Prepare For Rhinoplasty

During your consultation, we’ll talk through your goals, go over your medical history, and take detailed photos and scans of your nose.

We’ll look at both how your nose functions and how it fits with your other facial features, then create a plan that’s completely personalized to you. To get ready for your Houston rhinoplasty surgery, we might ask you to pause certain medications or supplements, stop smoking if you do, and avoid eating or drinking the night before. You’ll also need someone to drive you home and help out for the first day or two afterward.

Rhinoplasty Results

Following a rhinoplasty Houston patients will notice a difference right away, but the full results take time to show.

Swelling is totally normal and can stick around for several months, though most of it goes down within the first few weeks. By around 6 to 12 months, your final shape will be settled. Once your nose heals, the rhinoplasty results are long-lasting, and with good care, you won’t need to worry about additional procedures unless something changes down the line.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

The first few days after rhinoplasty surgery, you’ll want to rest with your head elevated to help with swelling.

You might have a splint on your nose and some light bruising around the eyes. Most people feel ready to go back to work or school in about a week or two. You’ll want to avoid strenuous exercise or anything that could bump your nose for at least a month. We’ll give you clear, simple instructions to follow so recovery feels manageable and smooth.

Rhinoplasty Aftercare

Keeping your results looking great mostly comes down to protecting your nose during the healing process.

That means avoiding trauma, wearing sunscreen to help prevent discoloration, and following all post-op instructions closely. We’ll see you for follow-up visits to make sure everything is healing well, and we’re always here if you have questions or concerns along the way.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

Rhinoplasty is highly personalized, so pricing can vary.

The total cost of a rhinoplasty depends on how complex the surgery is, which techniques are used, and whether it’s combined with any other procedures. During your consultation, we’ll go over a full breakdown of what’s included. That usually covers the surgeon’s fees, anesthesia, facility costs, and all follow-up appointments.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Your Rhinoplasty

The consultation is the most important step in the process, as we learn about your goals and establish realistic expectations. We'll examine your nose, discuss what's possible, and review techniques we can use to achieve your desired results.

After an in-depth consultation you and your Houston rhinoplasty surgeon will finalize the changes to your nose with a treatment plan that includes either an open or closed rhinoplasty technique. You'll be able to ask any questions you have so you feel comfortable, confident, and excited for your upcoming rhinoplasty.

Your surgery will take place in our private, on-site surgical center on a day and time that is ideal for your schedule. You'll want to account for 1 to 2 weeks of downtime following your rhinoplasty for a smooth recovery period.

We'll provide you with a wealth of information for before, during, and after your rhinoplasty. The day of surgery, you'll arrive at our state-of-the-art surgical suite, where our team will guide and be there for you every step of the way.

We'll pre-set your follow up appointments for after surgery. During these stages, we'll check in on your healing process, clean the area, and answer any questions throughout your recovery.

Following their rhinoplasty Houston patients report swelling from their surgery that may last for several months, but every patient is unique and so is their healing process. We'll continue to check in with your results as they progress.

Rhinoplasty Frequently Asked Questions

Rhinoplasty, otherwise known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure in which a cosmetic surgeon reshapes a patient’s nose. The reshaping may be performed for necessary medical reasons to correct breathing issues, or merely to improve the overall appearance of the nose for aesthetic purposes.

A rhinoplasty procedure will differ according to each patient’s specific situation. During rhinoplasty Houston plastic surgeons, Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks can change the size and width of the nose, correct humps on the bridge, alter the nasal tip, change the size and shape of nostrils, and fix any asymmetry or septum deviation. Oftentimes, the patient will also experience trouble breathing or chronic congestion.

The average cost of your rhinoplasty in Houston typically ranges between $8,000 and $15,000. The total cost for your rhinoplasty will depend on factors such as your surgeon’s fee, the location of your procedure, and other miscellaneous medical expenses.

At Heights Plastic Surgery, we accept cash and all major credit cards. We are also happy to offer financing through CareCredit® for patients. Because rhinoplasty is often more about cosmetic appearance and is less of a medical necessity, it is typically not covered by most insurance plans.

Before your rhinoplasty Houston practitioner will administer either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. The surgeon makes incisions inside the nose or across the tissue that separates the nostrils depending on the nature of the specific surgery. They sculpt the structure of the nose to the proper shape, drape skin and tissue back over, and close the incisions. The surgeon uses splints and tubes to support the nose during the healing process and we generally remove these after a week. The swelling will come and go for several weeks, and a majority of the swelling will go down about 2 months after the nose job.

Following their rhinoplasty Houston patients often experience swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes for the first 7 to 10 days following their rhinoplasty procedure. Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks may provide you with prescription medication that can help manage your pain.

Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks and their team will ask that you keep your head elevated when laying down for the first 2 weeks following your rhinoplasty. Patients are typically cleared to return to work and regular daily activities about 1 week following their rhinoplasty. While you will be able to see some results of your rhinoplasty once we remove your cast and splint. Ultimate results will appear once all incisions are healed and swelling subsides, about 6 to 8 months later.

We only suggest a nose job for patients who have realistic expectations for improving their nasal appearance and who are 13 years of age or older. Ideal Houston rhinoplasty candidates are also non-smokers and are otherwise physically healthy, allowing for proper healing after the nose job procedure. Also, keep in mind that Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks should have an idea as to why you want to undergo the procedure. For example, surgery to improve a blocked airway will require special attention and careful evaluation.
